Distance sampling workshop 2008A three-day Distance Sampling Workshop was organised by the Australian Marine Mammal Centre at the Institute of Marine Science in Sydney in April 2008. This workshop focused on the general principles of distance sampling, but with a focus on cetaceans and aerial surveys. It was conducted by two instructors from the Research Unit for Wildlife Population Assessment, Centre for Research into Ecological and Environmental Modelling, University of St Andrews. The workshop was designed to build capacity among Australian scientists who have active research programs designing, conducting and analysing marine mammal data from aerial surveys. There were 15 participants at the workshop including representatives from the University of Queensland, Southern Cross University, Edith Cowan University, Curtin University, Macquarie University, Department of Primary Industries & Water (Tas), and Department of Environment & Conservation (WA).
