Seismic workshop 2009

In early 2009, a seismic workshop will be held with members of government, industry, scientists and other interested stakeholders. The workshop will provide an opportunity for an operational review of the current seismic guidelines, and discussion of potential areas of improvement to these guidelines. The workshop will also assist in determining high priority areas of Australian whale research relevant to management of seismic surveys.

Further research into these priority areas will improve management of seismic surveys by reducing uncertainty, and providing more information regulators and policymakers can use to base decisions upon.  Ultimately the goal of the workshop is to lay out a broad research agenda and establish a funding mechanism for this research that will contribute to the improvement of scientific certainty and further development of the seismic guidelines.
